Union County
Before the economic downturn, Union County residential real estate was some of the fastest selling homes in the Carolinas. In fact, Union County was the fastest growing county in the Greater Charlotte area and was one of the fastest growing counties in the whole US. The reason so many opted for Union County was the excellent schools and lower property taxes which holds true today.
Union County is blessed with beautiful terrain...... the rolling hills of the Piedmont – mostly farm land, pastures and forest prior to the growth of Charlotte creating a huge demand for Union County homes. Doing a search for Western Union County homes can be quite confusing as some of the towns do not have a post office of their own so the mailing address may not contain the actual city a property is in. For example, when doing a Union County search a home may show the city of Waxhaw but the home is actually in the town of Marvin or Weddington. All three cities share the same post office and zip code and listings will show the city of Waxhaw. Of the three cities/towns Marvin is the closest to Charlotte. The towns of Western Union County are an interesting mix; however, the only one with a real downtown is historic Waxhaw. Waxhaw with its railroad tracks down the middle of town is reminiscent of small town Americana. The other towns & villages – Weddington, Marvin and Wesley Chapel– are little more than crossroads without a central business district. The Union County real estate one finds in these small towns is practically all residential... scattered throughout the incorporated and unincorporated areas. Weddington real estate is well known for its large residential lots – one acre or more.
Union County public schools are widely considered some of the best in the Charlotte area…and are highly sought after. Because of the recent population growth many of the Union County schools are relatively new.
The Western Union County high schools are Marvin Ridge High School, Cuthbertson High and Weddington High School. Each of the High schools adjoins the campus of the Middle Schools and allows them to share sports facilities.
The Western Union County middle schools are Marvin Ridge Middle School, Cuthbertson Middle & Weddington Middle School.
The Western Union County elementary schools are Marvin Elementary, Rea View Elementary, Kensington Elementary, Waxhaw Elementary, Sandy Ridge Elementary, Weddington Elementary, Wesley Chapel Elementary and New Town Elementary.
